Morphing into Emergent Sound
I have been developing a suite of realtime spectral processors for the Symbolic Sound Kyma system for quite some time. I am almost finished, and about to release the product on my website for other Kyma users to explore.
Whilst testing the last build, this interesting sound event happened.
A spectral morph between an identifiable source sample (an 808 drum beat) and a loud rainforest ambience. What is special here is that the beat sample was a specified source — an audio file from disk — but the ‘rainforest’ was not specified.
The result is an emergent phenomenon
In other words, the sound evolves through a process of complex manipulations acting on the spectrum of the source audio, using only frequency domain effects — a spectral metaphor perhaps, reflecting how biodiversity emerges in the real rainforest.
